FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Counselling?

The definition given by BACP is that counselling “offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve things.”

How much does it cost?

I charge individuals £40.00 per session. Typically each session will last for one hour

I offer an initial 30 minutes free appointment so that you can decide whether counselling is right for you. After that initial session, due to demand for appointments, I ask that payments for future sessions are paid one week in advance.

Please contact me if you are interested in counselling. You can leave a message 24 hours a day and I aim to reply within 48 hours if I am not immediately available   Contact

Does Counselling and Therapy Work for Everyone?

Different people will get different results from their therapy experience but research undertaken by Child Outcomes Research Consortium CORC reported that there is commonly a reduction in symptoms and improvement in general wellbeing following therapeutic intervention for young people and studies from the International Centre for Clinical Excellence showed that 80% of clients in counselling and therapy end up better off than those who didn’t seek help.

I find it very difficult to talk about some things. Do I have to talk?

No, I will be guided by you about what issues you want to bring to the session. I can work in different ways, including art therapy, CBT and mindfulness.

How do I know that you are the right counsellor for me?

Within counselling and therapy, the relationship between the counsellor and client is one of the most important components. It is for this reason that I offer a free initial 30 minute session so that you can decide if I am the person to work with you.

I confirm that I have

  • Appropriate counselling qualifications
  • Membership of a Professional Body (BACP)
  • Personal, Professional Liability Insurance
  • A recent DBS certificate (within the last two years)
  • Registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office and appropriate data protection policies in place

At your first session, if you decide that you want to proceed, I will invite you to make a contract with me which will include issues like confidentiality, what you need to do if you want to cancel a session, fees, what information is held and how information is stored
